Happy Foot Health Month!

In Canada, the Ontario Society of Chiropodists have designated May as Foot Health Month! At Collective Foot and Wellness Clinic Hamilton, we’re focusing on spreading education and awareness about foot health and chiropody this month.

With the warm weather finally here, May is the perfect month to address some foot concerns that we previously hadn’t noticed or have been avoiding. If your feet are already in good shape, use this month to give your feet some extra love.

Treat Your Feet this Month

Get a Pedicure

Your feet are finally getting to see the sun after six solid months of wearing winter boots. Treat your toes to a pedicure! Getting a bright toenail colour and a foot and leg massage is a great way to celebrate your foot health.

Always ensure you’re visiting a reputable salon with the right hygiene and health practices. Click here for more information about safe pedicures!

Use a Foot Soak

Foot soaks are a great way to relax at the end of a long day. Give your feet a break after you stood on them all day with a foot soak at home! There are tons of products available that provide relief and moisturization for tired feet and legs. Salts, bombs, milks, and crystals all provide relief to aching and sore feet and by spending just 10 or 15 minutes per night with a foot soak, can re-energize tired feet.

Lotion Up

No one wants dry, callused feet while they’re wearing sandals! Foot lotion is usually thicker and more moisturizing than body or hand lotion so that it can penetrate the thick skin and provide long lasting relief. Use foot lotion daily before you go to sleep and wake up with soft, moisturized feet!

There are many options for foot lotion available depending on your specific needs. You can find unique foot lotions that help with moisturizing, diabetic feet, tired feet, and callused feet.

Buy New Shoes

Spring only comes once a year. Treat yourself to a new pair of supportive shoes! You can easily find sandals, dress shoes, and running shoes with good support to promote good foot health. You don’t need to purchase orthopedic shoes for them to be supportive. Always check for arch support and a good cushioned heel to promote comfort.

Finding a good pair of orthotics can also help turn an old pair of shoes into a more supportive pair. This spring, treat yourself to a shoe upgrade so you can be comfortable all summer long.

Book a Chiropody Appointment

Even if you think you have good foot health, a chiropodist can spot small issues or give you general suggestions for overall foot care and foot health. If you spend a lot of time on your feet, run or play sports, or experience foot pain from time to time, a chiropodist can help make recommendations so that your foot health can be at its best.
