What is the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist in Ontario?

As of 1993, any Podiatrist that has registered to work in Ontario has had to register as a Chiropodist. Currently, there is no difference between Chiropodists and Podiatrists in the province of Ontario. Both professions have the exact same scope of practice within Ontario and are both able to provide the same services.

Both Chiropodists and Podiatrists in Ontario are adept at assessing and treatment of many foot conditions and pathologies. Both professions can prescribe medications, create custom foot orthoses and orthopedic shoes and perform soft tissue surgery and injections. The scope of practice Chiropodists differ from Podiatrists that practice outside of Ontario.

In the United States, Podiatrist have an expanded scope of practice where they are able to perform boney surgery, order blood work and radiographic imaging along with all the previously stated scope of practice.
